Nestled in the serene landscapes of Yamanaka Onsen, Higashiyama Bonheur is not just a cafe; it’s an experience that transcends the ordinary. This charming spot at 1 Chomeho-19-1 Yamanakaonsen Higashimachi, Kaga, Ishikawa invites you into a tranquil world, where the gentle rustle of leaves and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingle to create a perfect oasis for relaxation.

Stepping inside, you are greeted by an ambiance that exudes cozy sophistication. The decor is elegantly curated, with a warm color palette and comfortable furnishings that beckon you to linger. Large windows provide breathtaking views of the surrounding forest, allowing nature’s beauty to weave seamlessly into your cafe experience. This is a place where time slows down, making it ideal for a quiet respite from the daily hustle.

Higashiyama Bonheur prides itself on its refined menu, featuring a limited yet delightful selection that keeps the focus squarely on quality. Guests rave about the rich and aromatic coffee, a rarity in Japan that some have found difficult to encounter even in the most acclaimed establishments. Zachary Martz expressed his admiration for the lovely coffee, praising the staff's helpfulness in navigating the predominantly Japanese menu—a testament to their dedication to customer service.

For those with a sweet tooth, the cafe offers an array of delectable cakes. From a luscious rum cake, praised by Cem Ertül, to the mouthwatering tiramisu and baked cheesecake that Vivien Ling raved about—the desserts here are crafted with care and artistry. Each bite offers a moment of indulgence, perfectly paired with a glass of fruit tea or fresh apple juice, as Dannii Willis lovingly noted.

The star of their menu, however, is the beef stew with rice and root vegetables. Vivien Ling found it to be nothing short of delicious, echoing the sentiments of many who appreciate the simplicity and heartiness of this one lunch option. It’s this unique offering that encourages repeat visits, making it a cherished choice for both locals and travelers alike, as highlighted by Jonathan Case.

Higashiyama Bonheur is more than just a cafe; it’s a sanctuary for food lovers and a haven for those seeking solace in nature. Whether you’re looking to savor a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, indulge in heavenly desserts, or simply soak in the peaceful vibes of Yamanaka Onsen, this cafe promises an unforgettable experience that delights the senses and warms the heart.

With its commitment to quality and a cozy atmosphere that feels like home, Higashiyama Bonheur stands as a must-visit destination on your journey through Japan.

Lovely little cafe. Nice coffee, which has been hard to find in Japan even among the highly rate places. The only thing preventing this from 5 stars is an English version of the menu, and I know that is not a priority for them and not an expectation. The staff was very helpful in translating the Japanese menu.

Both the coffee and the rum cake was delicious. It was empty during cafe time so I could relax.

Cute cafe with peaceful views into the forest. We had a fruit tea and fresh apple juice which were both great, as well as an excellent rum & raisin cake.

A cozy place to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of Yamanaka Onsen. We went back twice.

The most serene little cafe I’ve ever been in, with beautiful cosy and elegant decor and a view into the forest. They have 5 types of cake and a list of hot and cold drinks. For lunch, they only serve one menu item and it’s beef stew and rice with root vegetables. But it is DELICIOUS! We also tried the tiramisu and the baked cheesecake as part of our lunch set. The baked cheesecake won hands down - it’s amazing, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t usually even like cheesecake! I will definitely visit again the next time I’m in this part of the world. Thank you for the wonderful food and experience!

Feels like a cafe that popped out from a Ghibli studio animation. We had Mori cake (森ケーキ) which was also drawn on a postcard. Loved it!

Adorable cafe. Beautiful seating upstairs with a view of Basho's hut. They also sell some cafe themed items, and other curated interesting items and books. Some gluten-free options available.
